Mario Andretti, driver of the #2 STP Oil Treatment Ford powered Lotus on pitlane with Graham Hill before qualifications for the Indianapolis 500. Andretti wrecked his wedge shaped, four wheel drive Lotus and had to race a two year old Hawk. Andretti would go on to win the event. The the start of the 1968 Indianapolis 500.  The #60 STP Lotus Turbine 4 driven by Joe Leonard (yellow nose stripe) side by side with the #70 STP Lotus Turbine 4 driven by team mate Graham Hill. During lap 109, Leonard who was running second pits under green flag conditions. Unser and Hill stay out on the track. At lap 110, Hill's suspension breaks ending his day and allowing Unser to pit under yellow. At lap 120 when the green flag flies, Unser passes Leonard on the inside and takes the lead. After a wreck on lap 183, the green flag waves on 190 and Leonard's turbine engine stalls and Unser takes the win. Graham Hill driver of the #70 STP Lotus Turbine 4 (four wheel drive) powered car leads Al Unser driver of the #24 Retzloff Chemical Lola Ford powered car during the 1968 Indianapolis 500. Unser would lose a wheel on lap 41 and be done for the day. Hill's suspension would break on lap 109 and would end his day.  Hill started 2nd and finish 19th. Unser started 6th and finish 26th. STP Team mates (L-R) Graham Hill in the #70 and Joe Leonard in the #60 Lotus Turbine 4 powered cars race side by side down the front straight. Hill would end his day after a wreck on 109 after his suspension breaks and would finish 19th after starting 2nd, also along side his pole sitting team mate Joe Leonard.  Leonard would finish 12th after starting with a record setting, pole winning time of 171.559. His day would end on lap 190 after a re-start where his engine would stall on the front straight.
